Meet the Principal

Dear Lyon Families,

It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of Lyon School. This initial letter serves as an opportunity to share a little bit about myself, as well as ways in which we may connect, and get to know one another in the near future. It is already apparent how fortunate I am to work in partnership with Lyon’s innovative and dedicated staff, supportive  family community, and of course, our wonderful students!

The primary years of education are the foundation of each child’s journey as a learner. The growth and change that we see in learners during this important developmental period, is fascinating to watch unfold. This is a juncture in student learning in which functional understanding is applied to previously mysterious aspects of a student’s world. Students begin to realize that print has meaning, knowledge of numbers allow them to solve real world problems, and social emotional learning, social studies, and science relate to their everyday lives and communities. It is because of these opportunities for “a-ha” moments, and the growth that we are able to see in your students each day, that draws me to this early stage of learning
as an educator.

I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, in the field of early childhood education, and my master's degree from National Louis University, in educational leadership and administration. I began my career in Evanston School District 65 as a special education kindergarten teacher, and then as a first grade teacher. From there, I transitioned to Glenview School District 34, where I taught early childhood, kindergarten, and first grade, at both Lyon and Westbrook Schools. Following my experiences as a teacher, I served as an intermediate level instructional coach at Glen Grove and Pleasant Ridge schools, and also served as the
district summer school principal for four years. As I moved into administration, I became an assistant principal of a K-6 building in Palatine School District 15. From there, I returned to District 34, where I became the assistant principal of Westbrook School, and then the assistant principal of Glen Grove School. It thrills me to now return to Lyon School as principal. It truly feels like returning “home.” Since teaching at Lyon school, it has always held a special place in my heart. Lyon exudes a warm, collaborative, and student centered environment, and I look forward to yet again, being a part of the incredible Lyon culture.

As an educational leader, I believe that we must consider the “whole- child” in our daily work with students. Part of the successful development and growth of the “whole-child” is working in close partnership with families. In the coming weeks of summer, I will be providing several opportunities to connect with both you, and your child.

Whether at a planned event, or during the school year, I look forward to getting to know your Lyon student, as well as your family!  Please do not hesitate to reach out, should you ever need to connect.
