Introduction
During this time of the year, most of us are very excited about the upcoming holidays. Did you know that not everyone celebrates the same holidays as you and your family? How much do you know about the holiday traditions celebrated by people from DIFFERENT cultures?

In this WebQuest you will work in a small group to learn about a winter holiday celebration that may be unfamiliar to you. After researching your assigned holiday, you and your group will create a poster to teach others in the class about the holiday you’ve studied.

The Task

The job of each group is to:
1. Research a winter holiday celebration using the resources listed in this WebQuest.
2. Answer questions about the holiday you’re studying.
3. Create a poster to teach others about your holiday, using the information you’ve gathered.
4. Present your poster to the class to teach everyone else about your holiday.

The Process

1) First, your teacher will assign you a group to work with. She will tell you which holiday you will research and give each member of your group a different job. The job descriptions are listed below:

  • Leader – This person will make sure that everyone is getting along and that all group members are on task.
  • Reader – This person will read all the directions and the research information aloud to the rest of the group.
  • Writer – This person will write down all the answers to the holiday questions.
  • Navigator – This person will be in charge of the mouse and will click to get to different places on the Internet.

2) Read over the holiday questions with your group, so you will know what information you need to find. Click here to print the holiday questions.

3) Visit the websites listed under your holiday to learn about it. Write down answers to some of the holiday questions.

4) Watch the movie(s) listed under your holiday to learn more (if there is a movie available). Write down answers to some of the holiday questions.

5) Look through the book(s) about your holiday to learn more. Write down answers to some of the holiday questions.

6) Create a poster to teach others about your holiday. The poster must include answers to the holiday questions, written in complete sentences. It should also contain pictures, which can be printouts or drawings.

7) Practice your presentation with your group. Make sure each person has a speaking part.

8) Present your holiday poster and information to the class.
