Impressionism
Light and Color
-First
Grade |
The first graders began
a unit in art on light and color to reinforce the concepts
that they are going to learn
in science. They observed
impressionistic work by Claude Monet and other famous impressionists.
They learned that the Impressionists were interested in the
effects light had on color. Many of them painted outdoors
so that as
the sun’s light changed so did their colors in their
paintings. Monet studied haystacks at different times of
the day and different
seasons. We noticed the changes in color. We studied the
sky outside the art room at different times of the day on
different
days. Take
a look at the art room sky at different times of the day.
The first graders used short brush strokes to create repetition
and
texture
in their own compositions and blended their colors in a new
way.
