Reading
How can you encourage reluctant readers?
Audio Books
Follow the book as the audio book plays. This helps
with word recognition and awareness of phrasing.
Read a page and then listen to it to check for understanding.
Listen to a chapter or page
and then read it to understand the main ideas.
Create Their Own Books on Tape
Have your child read into a tape recorder. During playback,
help him or her follow along in the book.
Family Read Night
Set aside thirty minutes each evening for family read
time. At the end of the week, the person with the most
minutes wins their choice of a treat or family activity.
