A Few Quick Notes...

Home-School Note Folders

Please continue to send your child’s folder with him or her each day.  I check the folder every day for homework and notes from home.  Anything you want me to receive needs to be in this folder or it might get lost in your child’s backpack.  Please check your child’s folder each day and remove the papers.  The best way to contact me is through a note in the note folder.  I will see it first thing and be able to write back to you that day.  You can also feel free to send a note asking me to call you.

Homework

Homework in kindergarten is designed to serve two purposes.  First, it provides a structured opportunity for parents to work with their children on certain skills that have been introduced here at school.  Secondly, it helps to establish a positive homework routine that will be critical as your child moves through school.  Homework should be sent back to school within one week from when it was received.  I collect and check all homework that is turned in to me.  I do not always send it home to you again, since you have already seen your child complete the assignment.  If your child has created something special that you would like returned, please send a note.

Center Time

Center Time is the kindergartners’ favorite time of day! The classroom environment is organized into activity centers.  The materials are arranged to encourage the children to work and play together yet also be independent.  Early in the year I rotate the children throughout the centers.  I believe this gives students the opportunity to experience all of the different materials and activities, as well as interact with new children each week.  Later in the year the students will choose their own centers by placing their picture card in the centerboard pocket chart.  Later in the year I often have parent volunteers work with small groups during this time.  It is amazing to see how much learning happens during the open ended experiences of Center Time.

Going Home

Please remember, if your child is going home in a way other than the normal way, you MUST send a note.
