Hi, my
name is Katie Cardella and I am one of the newest
second
grade teachers at
Lyon. I am
very excited to get to know your
child in the upcoming school year.
Currently,
I am obtaining my Master’s Degree in
Elementary Education through the DePaul Glenview
Clinical
Model Program. During the
2006-2007 school year, I spent four months
co-teaching in a first grade
classroom at Westbrook Elementary School
and student taught at Glen Grove in the TREE,
which is
a multi-age
3rd, 4th,
and
5th grade classroom. Prior to this program,
I worked with infants thru kindergarten age
students at
a daycare throughout
my four
years in college. After graduating from
Elmhurst College in May 2005 with a B.A.
in History, I
was a substitute teacher
in
Elmhurst District 205 before applying
to the DePaul Glenview Program.
In the upcoming school year, we will study
the history of Glenview, learn about a school community,
explore the
importance of citizenship, discover holidays and
traditions,
and
many more topics in Social Studies. In Science, we will explore solids, liquids, and gases, life cycles, and land. We will focus on paragraph
writing through many expository and narrative
assignments. Reading will also be an important
part of our day. Your child will learn strategies of a
good
reader
and read many non-fiction and fiction books. It
is going to be a great year!
I am
expecting a great year full of inquisitive students
who will become independent learners that enjoy
coming
to
school
everyday.
I look forward to getting to know you, your family,
and especially
your
child. If you have any questions please do not hesitate
to contact me.
Have a great
summer!
