From the Lyon Life of June 4, 2010

Dear Lyon Families, Dear Lyon Families, We look back on our year with much to celebrate. We hope you were able to stop by our Open House and get a sense of the learning and growth that has taken place for each of your children this year. As the newly created mosaic at Lyon states, Your Life is Your Story, (click to view mural site ) and we close out the current chapter of life at school with smiles on our faces. Thank you, Lyon/Pleasant Ridge PTA, for supporting this wonderful artist-in-residence project!

We wish our 2nd graders the best as they move over to Pleasant Ridge or elsewhere next year. We are so proud of their accomplishments during their time at Lyon School, and we know continued success awaits them as 3rd graders.

The summer offers many opportunities for continued learning and growth for children. Representatives from the Glenview Public Library visited our schools recently to share information with our students about their summer reading program. Whether it is through this program or some other means, we strongly encourage you to ensure that your children continue reading throughout the summer. In addition to regular reading and physical activity, students’ interests can turn into fun and engaging local field trips. Travel offers a chance to be intentional with children about geography, history and culture. A trip to the grocery store can become a natural use of those math skills (e.g., estimation, coins, etc.). Numerous websites (including those of our schools and PTA) offer other ideas and resources for kids and families. Learning never needs to stop – it only changes venues.

Thank you all for another excellent school year. We wish you a wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone in August! Until then, take care.

Sincerely,

Kevin Dorken
Lyon School Principal
