What
is a Podcast?
A podcast is a digital
media file or a collection of files, which is distributed
over the Internet. Podcasts are also known as webcasts.
The content is uploaded as episodes, to a site or particular
web address Podcasts can be audio files only or audio and
video files, too.
How do I to find a podcast?
“
Podcasters”,
those who create podcasts, submit their content to many
different
locations on the web. Sites such as Podcast.Net ,http://www.podcast.net/ or Podcast Ally, http://www.podcastalley.com/ can help you
locate podcasts that interest you. You could also check iTunes
(on a PC http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcasts.html or as part of the iLife package on a Mac) for podcasts..
Be aware
that not all podcasts are appropriate for all ages so it
is best to screen a podcast first before allowing young
users
to listen or watch.
How do I listen to a podcast?
Did you know that you do not
need an iPod to listen to podcasts? Most people who listen
to podcasts stream directly to their computer. Podcasts are
not real-time. Since there is no live broadcast of content,
podcast material is pre-recorded and users can check out
the material at their leisure at any time.
Why are Lyon Students creating Podcasts?
We are living in a digital society and want to share with
the larger community what we are learning and doing at
Lyon School. Podcasting is integrated into the Fine Arts,
Science, Social Studies and Language Arts curriculums
at Lyon!
