  • Select software that is age appropriate and that you have previewed first. Do not trust the catalogs or hear-say. You know your students best.
  • Young students should be able to take work to the computer and type it out, then listen as the computer reads it back. Examples : KidWorks Deluxe, Kidspiration, KIDPIX, Clicker 4, Ultimate Writing and Creativity Center
  • Determine how you want the software, ebooks, or internet resources used as a part of your reading curriculum.

Technologies that Support Student Reading Development-

  • Audio books - otherwise known as books on tape. Students listen and follow along with the printed version
  • Electronic books and online text - text enhancements, illustrations, variety of free online reading materials on the web
  • Programmed Reading Instruction - one of the first uses of technology literacy instruction,software programs, computer assisted instruction ( Accelerated Reading) and are usually organized around specific curriculum objectives
